Engagement sessions are a wonderful opportunity for us to get to know each other while creating beautiful images that reflect your love story.
Book Your Session in Advance
We recommend booking your engagement session at least 3-4 weeks in advance.
This allows time for outfit planning, location scouting, and gathering inspiration. This also allows you to have plenty of time to use photos for things like save-the-dates, your wedding website, or wedding decor.
How Long the Session Lasts
Most engagement sessions last about 90 minutes.
This allows time to explore the location, capture a variety of poses, and include an outfit change if desired.
Timing Matters
Choosing a season that reflects your personality or the style you love is a great place to start. Whether its the colors of the fall, the blooms of the spring, the warmth of the summer, or the cozy feel of winter, each session creates beautiful photos.
The best lighting for photos usually occurs early in the morning or during golden hour, the hour before sunset, unless the session is taking place indoors.
Outfit Planning
We recommend bringing at least one elegant outfit.
Many couples bring two outfits: one casual and one dressy.
Consider incorporating your wedding colors if you plan to display engagement photos at your wedding.
Please arrive already dressed in your first outfit. We recommend starting with the formal outfit first.
Hair, Makeup & Grooming Tips
Professional hair and makeup can help you feel confident and camera-ready.
Schedule haircuts about 1-2 days before the session.
Make sure clothing is wrinkle-free and nails are clean or neutral. Consider getting a manicure and moisturizing your hands before your session. Your engagement ring will be a special highlight in many of your photos, so having your hands looking their best will make a difference.
Location Planning
Think about the style of location you want such as architecture, greenery, historic buildings, or indoor spaces.
Start gathering inspiration photos to help communicate your vision.
Research Location Requirements
Some locations require photography permits or location fees.
Please research and contact the location ahead of time if necessary.
Traveling for Sessions
BFocus Studios is open to traveling anywhere within Louisiana for engagement sessions as long as availability permits. Please reach out prior to booking if you have any questions about locations outside of Lafayette, Louisiana.
Sessions outside of Louisiana does require travel fees.
Things to bring:
Consider bringing a small bag with a few essential items like water, your phone, keys, wallet, and a brush or comb. Items like a towel, hairspray, and basic makeup can also be helpful for quick touch-ups and fixing any flyaways before we start shooting.
Most importantly, bring your best energy!
Add Personal Touches
Personal details can make your session more meaningful.
Consider bringing champagne, a blanket, your pet, or items related to your hobbies or wedding.
What Happens if It Rains
If rain is expected on the day of your session, we will work with you to reschedule for the next available date. We recommend postponing to another date if the forecast is above 40%.
When You Will Receive Your Photos
Proofs will be delivered within 2 business days of the photoshoot. Final edited engagement images will be delivered within 14 business days through an online gallery.
Arrive Early
We recommend arriving 15 minutes early to allow time for parking and walking to the location.
